Barcelona thrash Leganes
A brace from Lionel Messi helped Barcelona progress to the quarter-finals of Copa del Rey as they claimed a 5-0 win over Leganes at the Nou Camp this morning.
The host side got off to an amazing start with Antoine Griezmann tucking away Nelson Semedo’s cut back with just three minutes on the clock. The Frenchman was denied a second goal by VAR soon after before Clement Lenglet doubled their advantage in the 27th minute with a brilliant header.
Leganes did not show any signs of putting up a fight and found themselves three goals down as Messi’s shot was deflected into the back of the net in the 59th minute.
Barcelona added a fourth in the 77th minute when Arthur Melo smashed in the rebound after Messi shot straight at Leganes goalkeeper Iván Cuéllar. Messi then rounded the goalkeeper before calmly slotting home to bag his second goal of the game with just minutes left to play.
Despite the comprehensive victory, new Barcelona boss, Quique Setien, said that he wasn’t “entirely satisfied” with his team’s performance.
“We did very well in the first 20 to 25 minutes. It’s true they could have hurt us, but we did many things well. However, I am not entirely satisfied.
“We scored but we lost control of the game and gave them a lot of life when we had to control the game,” said the 61-year-old Spaniard.”
