Berbatov insists Mourinho should be given more time
Dimitar Berbatov has backed Jose Mourinho to succeed at Tottenham Hotspur, with the 57-year-old currently being criticised for a miserable run.
The former Manchester United, Chelsea and Real Madrid boss took over from Mauricio Pochettino in late November and got off to a strong start at the club.
But a recent downturn has seen them fall to eighth in the Premier League following defeats to Chelsea and Wolves, while also being knocked out of the FA Cup and UEFA Champions League.
However, former Tottenham striker Berbatov insists that Mourinho should be given more time to prove his worth at the club.
“Things had gone sour under Mauricio Pochettino, anybody could see that, and I thought Jose Mourinho was a good choice to replace him,” said Berbatov, who is Bulgaria’s all-time leading goalscorer.
“Tottenham haven’t gone backwards. Any head coach deserves a full season to bring in his players and implement his philosophy.
“Spurs are going through a difficult period, but Mourinho should be judged on next season at the club.
“Players take time to adjust to a new manager, especially when it’s one with a different style to his predecessor.”
