Edilson: I’m the best
Former Brazil forward Edilson has claimed that he was better than Lionel Messi, Cristiano Ronaldo and Neymar at the peak of his career.
The 49-year-old, who was mainly known for his stand-out performances with Brazilian clubs Palmeiras and Corinthians either side of a loan spell at Benfica, said that he was better than those three players because he won the World Cup with Brazil in 2002.
“At my best, I played better than Neymar. He needs to win the World Cup in order to be better than me,” he told TV Bandeirantes.
“I have personality and for Messi to be better than me, he also has to win the World Cup.
“Cristiano Ronaldo is just strength, he strikes the ball well with both feet but I’m more skilful than him.”
Ronaldo (Portugal) and Neymar (Brazil) have only made it to the semi-finals of the competition, while Messi’s Argentina were defeated by Germany in the 2014 final.
