Iraq suspend 72 players
A staggering total of 72 players have reportedly been suspended from the Iraq national football team due to age fraud.
Rising star striker Mohanad Ali and wing-back Ali Adnan Kadhim are among the players who have been called into questioning for forging birth certificates.
It is believed that the Integrity Commission is looking into the forging of documents in Iraqi football and have asked the Iraq Football Association to suspend 72 players suspected of age fraud from playing for the national team.
With the Iraq squad likely to be without a number of key players for the upcoming 2022 FIFA World Cup and 2023 AFC Asian Cup Joint-Qualifiers, sources claim that national head coach Srecko Katanec has refused to negotiate an extension of his contract.
