Prediction: Who will win the 2020 Ballon d’Or?
No worries, we did not include Ronaldo or Messi in this list. Ballon d’Or is one of the most prestigious annual awards which is awarded to the best player of the past year. We know it’s too bit early for predictions because anything can happen between now and then…but judging by these footballers’ hard work so far, we genuinely think they might stand a chance to win the award this year.
Haaland has outscored Messi and Ronaldo this season with 36 goals in just 26 games. He made his debut against Augsburg and scored a hat-trick within 23 minutes of the game in January. So far, he has scored 8 goals in 4 games. Even if he doesn’t win the Ballon d’Or award this year, the 19-year-old striker still has a whole career ahead of him.
2.Kevin De Bruyne
De Bruyne is so close to breaking Thierry Henry’s record of 20 assists in a single season. Currently, with 15 assists already to his name, we’re not going to be surprised if De Bruyne can break Henry’s 17 years record. Currently playing as a midfielder for Manchester City, there’s a high chance De Bruyne will win the Ballon d’Or if he proves his capability in the Champions League.
Mbappe plays as a forward for Paris Saint-Germain. This season he has already scored 18 goals along with nine assists in just 19 matches in all competitions. We’ve put him in this list because we’re confident the 21-year-old can guide France and PSG to win major titles this year, eventually winning the Ballon d’Or.
4.Virgil Van Dijk
Probably the best defender in the world right now, Van Dijk is doing a great job in leading his team in the Premier League title race. He will most likely win his first Ballon d’Or award if he’s able to help his teams win a major trophy in next few months. We honestly think, 2020 is Van Djik’s year.
According to ESPN, Neymar left Barcelona so that he could have a better chance at winning the award because let’s face it, if he’s in the same club as Messi there’s no way he’ll be able to outshine the superstar. So, Neymar left the club and moved to Paris Saint-Germain. However, 2019 was not a great year for him; Due to numerous injuries, his name didn’t even make it to the 30-man shortlist for the Ballon d’Or this year. We’re 100% sure in 2020, Neymar will give his all.
