Sometime back in 1980, Cruyff almost signed for Dumbarton, one of the oldest football clubs in Scotland. However, it didn’t happen and then-Dumbarton manager, Sean Fallon admitted that the news was actually a PR stunt. “I knew it was always unlikely we would get Cruyff, but the way I saw it we couldn’t lose. At worst, it got Dumbarton on the back pages for a few days and boosted the club’s image and profile, which was very low at that time”.
Back in 2011, West Brom refused to seal a deal with Aubameyang worth RM9.38 million. In 2018, prior to his Arsenal move, he was worth around RM 52.5million (£10.5 million). He has been playing for the Gunners since 2018.
Scottish club Rangers approached Messi and when they were rejected, they tried to get Iniesta, who currently plays for Japanese club Vissel Kobe, to sign for them. Ex-Rangers manager, Alex McCleish revealed, “We asked if we could bring him to Scotland and were told that they would try and make some hay at Barcelona and get him over to us. They said Iniesta needed to get some action.” A few days later, Barcelona canceled the deal.
We’re sure every club dreamt of having Maradona play for them. This nearly-happened-transfer deal with Sheffield United took place in 1978, just two years after Maradona made his professional debut for Argentinos Juniors. After a scouting trip to Argentina in 1978, Sheffield United manager Harry Haslam convinced the management to sign young Maradona but the Blades chose Alex Sabella instead and the rest is history.
