Vietnam clinch women’s football gold
The Vietnam women’s football team defeated Thailand 1-0 in extra time to win gold at the SEA Games 2019 in Manila, Philippines on Sunday.
It was a repeat of the AFF Women’s Championship 2019 final as ASEAN powerhouses Vietnam and Thailand went head-to-head and similar to how things played out in Chonburi earlier this year, Vietnam had to wait until the extra time to find the winning goal.
Vietnam are now the most successful nation in the women’s football category of the SEA Games after winning their sixth gold, surpassing Thailand who they also defeated in the 2017 edition.
Pham Hai Yen emerged as the hero for Mai Duc Chung’s team at the Rizal Memorial Stadium by heading home the winner in the third minute of extra time.
Meanwhile, Myanmar walked away with the bronze medal after defeating host nation Philippines 2-1 earlier in the day.
