The Pesta Futsal
Rakyat – Piala Tun Dr. Mahathir Mohamad 2019 reached its epic conclusion at the
Grand Finals in Uptown Sports, Bangi, Selangor on 1 September with thousands in
attendance.
Organised by Futsal.Asia under the esteemed patronage of Malaysia Prime Minister, YAB Tun Dr. Mahathir Mohamad, the ‘Piala’ travelled across four key zones, throughout Peninsular Malaysia on a two-month long sporting carnival unlike anything the nation has ever experienced.
Featuring a wide range of categories such as futsal Under-12, Under-16, Men’s Open, Women’s Open, Panna Championship, Freestyle Football Championship & MY E-Games Championship along with numerous other fun mini-games, the tournament, which is supported by the Ministry of Youth and Sports and MYE.G. Services Bhd (MYEG) as title sponsor, attracted an overwhelming attendance of over 30,000 participants and spectators at the five different venues.
The Grand Finals
saw the very best four teams, per category, from each zone – East (Pahang),
North (Kedah), Central (Subang), South (Johor) & Central II (Bangi) –
battle it out for the trophy and lucrative cash prizes in an intense showdown.
Unique FC took
home the trophy for the men’s open category and RM20,000 in cash, while the
Boys Under-12 and Under-16 were won by All Star Jr A and Ally FT C
respectively, with each team taking home RM10,000.

The prize giving ceremony proved to be a lively affair with local artist Ismail Izzani leading a stellar list of performers which included the likes of world renowned freestyle footballers; Takahashi Kosuke (JPN), Jordan Morisson (AUS) & Malaysia’s very own Zeem Ahmad and modern circus arts group Psycusix.

Khairuddin Bin Othman, who was present at the Grand Finals said, “Sports
is the perfect platform to nurture unity among Malaysians. And here in Selangor
we are constantly looking for ways to support sports-based initiatives. I’m
very proud of what Futsal.Asia have accomplished here and I look forward to
working closely with them in the future.”
Keeping up with
Malaysia’s commitment towards embracing the digital age, Pesta Futsal Rakyat
Piala Tun Dr. Mahathir Mohamad 2019 featured an entirely app-based registration
process via Futsal.Asia’s “Tournamentor” mobile application, which provided
users and players alike with real-time updates of competition results and
standings.
Each team were
assigned a QR code and each player was issued a RFID wristband, complete with
readable player profile, to keep track of both attendance and movement in and out
of pitches as well as goodie redemption.
