Malaysia placed in tough group

The Malaysia national futsal team are set to go up against the likes of Indonesia, Australia and Vietnam in Group B of the AFF HDBank Futsal Championship 2019.

With only three slots available for the confederation-level meet in 2020, all participating teams will be going all out to emerge victorious in the tournament which is being held in Vietnam.

The Group B opener will see Malaysia facing off against traditional rivals Indonesia at the Phu Tho Stadium in Ho Chi Minh City on 21 October.

“Every match in this group will be like a final,” said Malaysia head coach Chiew Chun Yong.

“We played in two tournaments in China and that gave us some insights into the squad. We are not taking anything for granted so we have to play our best in every game.”

Indonesia head coach Sayan Karmadi added,”The composition of this group is extraordinary. It will be tough in every game. And while we did go to Japan for preparation, the news that we have a player suspended is certainly not good. It has stunted our preparation somewhat.”

Meanwhile, in Group A, defending champions Thailand will be counting their lucky stars after being placed alongside Cambodia, Myanmar and Timor-Leste.

21 October

Thailand vs Cambodia – 12pm

Myanmar vs Timor Leste – 2.30pm

Malaysia vs Indonesia – 5pm

Vietnam vs Australia – 8pm
